Stay tuned to find out how our batch turns out!
We have a new project in the works! Today, we began assembling the brew kettle before we start brewing a batch of beer! This will be a fun side project for us as we experiment with brewing. We successfully assembled the ball valve and thermometer for the brew kettle. For this batch, we will be brewing Blind Pig's West Coast I.P.A.
Stay tuned to find out how our batch turns out!
On July 9th, 2016, Snow Summit hosted the 2nd annual Crafts and Cranks Brew Festival & Bike Race. The Hoppy Trails crew joined by Phil S. from RideSFO(Super Fun Outdoors), spent the weekend in Big Bear Lake, California for some mountain bike riding and tasting of some SoCal craft beers.
This was a last minute trip, so most of the campgrounds near Snow Summit were full for the weekend. I've used VRBO on many occasions, but we didn't have much luck getting any replies to our reservation requests (completely our fault for the last minute decision, so plan ahead), so we decided to go to Big Bear Vacations for our cabin rental. They had plenty of rentals and were very professional and pleasant to deal with. We even received a discount because it was already Friday evening when we called to book a place for Fri and Sat nights. Procrastination sometimes helps!! It is definitely more pricey compared to VRBO, but the condo we rented was very clean and well maintained. Parking sucked though!!! Make sure you ask about parking in Big Bear! Every rental seemed to have a set number of parking spaces per rental home.
Our crew rode Snow Summit's bike park in the morning and then headed to the festival in the afternoon. Due to the downhill races, the MTB park had limited # of trails open to the public, so we didn't get to enjoy the full glory of Snow Summit. $25 entry fee to the venue included 20 beer tickets and a taster glass. Purchase of a lift ticket or entry in any of the bike races allowed access to the festival, but NO beer tickets. A few of us purchased 10 tickets for $15. Some notable breweries were Noble, Ritual, Rip Current, Alosta, and New Belgium breweries. The festival was supposed to have 30 different breweries, but there may have been 20 or less... I didn't count, but we had plenty of beers to drink. As a matter of fact, we had a stack of drink tickets left over from people who donated their tickets to us.
Overall, we met some new friends and had an awesome time. We plan to go again next year, but hopefully, we can get a booth and sell some stuff while we're at it!
Do As Many Rounds As Possible (AMRAP) in 10 minutes of
-20 Box Jumps (20-24"); box should be knee height
-5 Pull-Ups (strict or kipping)
Warmup with double unders and shoulder mobility... Foam Roll pre and post WOD.
6 Rounds for Time:
Run 400 meters (it's a good idea to count out the number of steps, while running, to complete 200/400 meters) then complete 15 Dive Bomber Push Ups (DBPU). If you know approximately how many strides it takes to complete 400 meters, then you can do this workout anywhere. Otherwise, you will need to mark a route or run at a track.
Warm up with a jog and warm up those shoulders!!
As always, finish the WOD with some core work.
5 Rounds For Time.
Jumping Lunges: Starting in a lunge position (e.g., right knee in front bent at 90 degrees and back leg bent 90 degrees with knee touching the floor), jump up and shuffle both feet and legs and land softly in a lunge position (touching the back knee on the ground). When jumping, jump high enough to fully extend both legs before lowering down to lunge position.
Leg Levers: Lay flat on your back with arms out to your side (enough to provide some lateral stability) and legs straight. Lift both legs up until toes are pointing straight up (90 degrees with upper torso), then engage your core and lift your buttocks off the ground. Both feet should still be pointing straight up in the air (imagine pushing a ball or some object higher into the air).
Friday, Jan 1, 2016!!!! Happy New Year!!
This WOD is in celebration of 2016!
Start with 15 HSPUs + 1 L-Pull up (totals 16 reps)
then, 13 HSPUs +3 L-PUs
11 + 5
9 + 7
7 + 9
5 + 11
3 + 13
If you're unable to do L- Pull-ups, try knees to chest then pull-up or perform them separately (bring your knees to your chest, then attempt a pull-up or perform ring rows).
New Year's Eve WOD (Thursday, Dec 31)!!
5 rounds for time of 20 step-ups to a 20" box (should be as tall as the top of your knee for full range of motion/depth) with a 35# Kettle Bell or dumbbell. Alternate your legs (10 each leg).
20 deadlifts with 135# barbell (Sub with toes to bars if no barbell).
Add 20 toes to bars with each round if you can't do the prescribed weight of deadlifts.
Double-Unders: Two revolutions of jump rope for every hop/jump. If unable to perform, then substitute with running jump rope but multiply by 3 (150-120-90-60-30).
Substitute sit-ups with leg levers or roman chairs to increase difficulty.
For Time: 21-15-9 repetitions of Thrusters and Pull-ups.
95 lb Thrusters - With a barbell, front squat to press overhead. Use less weight or dumbells/kettlebells if you don't have a proper front squat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qic2WOYwXM8
